Song O Tender God, Have Mercy by Richard Bruxvoort Colligan

O tender God, have mercy

for you are for us

O living Christ, have mercy

Song Just As I Am, Without One Plea ELW 592

Just as I am, without one plea,

but that thy blood was shed for me,

and that thou bidd'st me come to thee,

O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about

with many a conflict, many a doubt,

fightings and fears within, without,

O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am; thy love unknown

has broken ev'ry barrier down;

now to be thine, yea, thine alone,

O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Invitation to Lent

Confession of Sin

Most holy and merciful God, we confess to you and to one another, and before the whole company of heaven, that we have sinned by our fault, by our own fault, by our own most grievous fault, in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.

C: Have mercy on us, O God.

C: Hear us, O God, for your mercy is great. Amen.

Imposition of Ashes Beautiful Things by Lisa Gungor and Michael Gungor

Chorus:

You make beautiful things.

You make beautiful things

out of the dust.

You make beautiful things.

You make beautiful things

out of us.

All this pain.

I wonder if I'll ever find my way.

I wonder if my life could really change, at all.

All this earth.

Could all that is lost ever be found?

Could a garden come out from this ground, at all?

All around,

hope is springing up from this old ground.

Out of chaos life is being found, in you.

L: Accomplish in us, O God, the work of your salvation,

C: that we may show forth your glory in the world.

L: By the cross and passion of your Son, our Savior,

C: bring us with all your saints to the joy of his resurrection.

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Benediction

L: As you leave this place, when you meet anger, speak with love.

C: When you meet fear, speak with hope. When you meet pain, speak with gentleness.

L: But no matter what, speak this good news:

C: For the good news of the gospel is love and justice for all.

L: It is joy that surprises, and peace that transforms.

C: The good news of the gospel is alive in the world, so go forth speaking.

L: For if you won’t, then who will? Thanks be to God for this good, good news.

C: Amen.

Song When It Seems the Day Will End by Justin Rimbo

When it seems the day will end,

and all light gives way to fear,

we will speak your name again

to remind us you are here.

Refrain:

New life rising, ashes falling,

joy and weeping, in your calling.

When it seems the day will end,

sinking low under our skin,

we are dead and born again,

and with you now enter in.

When it seems the day will end,

and a coldness fills our bones,

we will walk the way you've been,

and our hearts will be your home.
